INTERN TALK
INTERNSHIP, a word which seems to intrigue every pre-final year student was the topic of discussion in the INTERN TALK organized by SPE ISM Student Chapter on 19th August 2011. The present final year students, who were the panelists, had done their internship in the last academic year. The students of second year also showed a great deal of enthusiasm for the event. The venue for the event was PET-II in the New Petroleum Department.
Mr. Aakash Vishwas who had done his internship at SHELL was the first speaker. He emphasized on a variety of topics ranging from getting a good GPA to building contacts in the Oil and Gas Industry. He also emphasized on the Internship evaluation criteria of SHELL: CAR(T) which stands for Capability Achievement Relationship and Technical. Plus he gave the audience tips to succeed in the telephonic interview round of SHELL by having an open and objective mindset during the interview.
Mr. Shivam Sharma, an internee at Schlumberger, was the next speaker who gave the students tips to succeed in the Personal Interview round of Schlumberger. He also emphasized the significance of doing a good project during the second year or at the start of third year.
Mr. Ashish Jain and Shashank Pathak who had done their internships at Directorate General of Hydrocarbons and SDC Geologix Limited respectively emphasized on attending Conferences and Workshops to build contacts in the industry and get the requisite exposure in the industry.
Mr. Gaurav Sharma who did his internship at ONGC Ahmadabad Assets underlined the importance of being inquisitive during the period of Intern to maximize the given opportunity and learn the intricacies of the hydrocarbon industry.
Mr. Gaurav Agarwal, who was the last speaker for the evening, raised the spirits of everyone by narrating his own story. He was not in the top 10 list of his batch yet by his shear determination he got an internship in CAIRN INDIA Pvt. Ltd. He also advised the students not to lose heart after one or two failed attempts but to restart the quest with renewed energy.
The event drew to a close with the panel assembling on the stage for a question-and-answers round in which more than 21 probing questions were asked and aptly answered. The event concluded with a big round of applause for the panelists.
