Substantial underutilized hydrocarbon resources exist within the Earth in the form of so-called heavy oil (10 to 20 °API) and conventional oil (greater than 20 °API) that remains after secondary water flood and primary pressure depletion operations. Thermal oil recovery, the introduction of heat into an oil reservoir, is well suited to unlock these resources.

So to make the member student familiar with this new unconventional method the chapter invited SIdhartha Sur, GM, Institute of Reservoir Studies (IRS) to deliver a lecture on Insitu Combustion.
